Dr. Macedonio Alanis is a Senior Consultant with Cutter Consortium's Business-IT Strategies practice. Dr. Alanis is professor of the department of Management Information Systems at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, in Monterrey, Mexico. He performs research and teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses, some of which are attended, via satellite, by nearly 1200 students in nine Latin American countries. Dr. Alanis also consults with public and private institution on IT strategy.
In the private sector, Dr. Alanis has been responsible for the definition of business development strategies for Neoris, an IT company of the multinational CEMEX, and for the creation of Global Software Factory, a co-investment between CEMEX and World Software Services, that worked on projects in Mexico, Europe, US and South America.
In the public sector, as CIO for the Government of the State of Nuevo Leon, Dr. Alanis participated in successful and innovative projects, leading to hold the seat of president of CIAPEM, the national committee for informatics in states and municipalities of Mexico, comprising CIOs of all states and municipalities of Mexico. He has also been member of the IT consulting committee for INEGI, responsible, in part, for the definition of Mexico's national IT policies.
Dr. Alanis is member of Mexico's National Researchers System (SNI-CONACYT) and has written more than 60 papers and presented at conferences on topics such as IT in the public sector (e-government), e-business, diffusion of technological innovations, the management of information technologies and information requirements determination.
In 2002, Dr. Alanis received the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship. This allowed him to travel through the United States to conduct research and interview top executives, specialists and elected officers on the topics of e-government, CRM and offshore software development factories. In 2003 he was elected to occupy one of the two chairs reserved for IT researchers from the Americas on the board of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). In 2004 he received the award for teaching and research given by the ITESM and was invited by the University of New York to participate in the Remarque Forum.
Dr. Alanis has been member of the academic senate of the Virtual University of the ITESM, and has worked as professor and researcher at the University of Detroit Mercy, as instructor at the University of Minnesota and as research assistant at Brown University. He was also member of the IT steering committee at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon.
Dr. Alanis has a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration on Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Alanis holds a Master of Sciences in Computer Science (ScM) from Brown University, and a BSc in Computer Science from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico.
