Dr. Ken Collier, Cutter Senior Consultant

Ken Collier is a Senior Consultant with Cutter Consortium's Business Intelligence and Agile Product & Project Management practices. He is a leader in combining agile methods with data warehousing (DW), business intelligence (BI), and advanced analytics -- disciplines that present a unique set of challenges to the incremental/evolutionary style of agile development. Mr. Collier has successfully adapted agile techniques to DW/BI to create the Agile Analytics style. He continues to refine these ideas as a technical lead and project manager on several agile DW/BI project teams. Mr. Collier also frequently trains DW/BI teams in Agile Analytics, giving him the opportunity to exercise this approach with various technologies, team dynamics, and industry domains.

With more than two decades in advanced computing and technology, Mr. Collier has experienced many of the trends that come and go in the field, as well as the ones that truly transform the state of practice. He embraces challenging problems in the areas of systems architecture and design, systems/software development lifecycles, project leadership, DW/BI, and advanced analytics. Mr. Collier also loves helping organizations adopt and tailor effective approaches and solutions that might not otherwise be apparent. He combines a deep technical foundation with sound business acumen to help bridge the gaps that often exist between technical and business professionals.

Mr. Collier has had the privilege of working as a software engineer for a large technology company. He has spent several years as a tenured professor of computer science engineering. Mr. Collier has also directed the DW/BI solutions group for a major consulting firm. Most recently, he has worked on enabling organizational agility for client companies, including agile software engineering, agile analytics, and agile management and leadership. Mr. Collier has written extensively about agile DW/BI and is the author of the forthcoming Agile Analytics: A Value-Driven Approach to Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing. With an MS and PhD in computer science engineering, he is formally trained in software engineering, data management, and machine learning. Ken Collier can be reached at consulting@cutter.com

Hillel Glazer

Cutter Senior Consultant

Hillel Glazer, a Senior Consultant with Cutter's Agile Product & Project Management practice, is recognized as the world's leading authority on introducing lean and agile concepts into the regulated world. In particular, he's the "AgileCMMI guy" (agilecmmi.com) and is the SEI's go-to authority on Agile, having co-authored their only paper on the topic and contributed the agile content in new CMMI for Development v1.3. Hillel has helped companies of all sizes and locations successfully blend agile with CMMI and achieve performance benefits, not just artifacts and ratings.

Hillel's professional passion is to work with companies who are motivated to achieve world-class operations and excellence. He is among the few CMMI High Maturity Lead Appraisers and CMMI Instructors working almost exclusively with agile teams. Recently, as a Visiting Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, and now as an independent contractor, he contributes to the SEI's Services constellation where the concepts of Kanban fit well with the Service model. As such, he is working with more and more companies to adopt Kanban and CMMI to achieve their performance objectives.

His diverse experience base includes aerospace/defense and systems engineering, large and small consulting practices, Federal agencies, dot-com operations and financial, medical and transportation systems development and support. This is probably what gave him the necessary perspective to pioneer how to bring CMMI and Agile together as far back as 2001 when no one was ready to think about marrying the two.

Hillel is an in-demand speaker and presenter, he is widely read, broadly published, and appears worldwide on the topics pertaining to operational excellence in regulated industries. His approaches have successfully harmonized lean- and systems-thinking into highly regulated industries that demand adherence and governance while in pursuit of excellence and profits. His upcoming book, High Performance Operations: Turning Compliance into Competitive Advantage lays out exactly how he does it.

Hillel is founder and Principal of Entinex, a company with global reach that focuses on generating powerful results for high performance operations among companies motivated to be lean, agile, and achieve world-class levels of operational excellence. He can be reached at consulting@cutter.com.
